Simon Barnes

Chartered Physiotherapist (BSc MCSP)

Simon is an experienced Consultant Chartered Physiotherapist and musculoskeletal specialist, with over 20 years’ experience working in private practice.

Alongside treating everyday musculoskeletal problems and injuries, Simon has particular interests in chronic and complex conditions, acute injuries and trauma, and specialist fracture healing. His extensive experience and broad range of treatment skills allow him to take an individual approach to each patient, rather than relying on one particular type of treatment.

When should I book with Simon?

Simon is particularly well placed to help if:

  • you have a persistent or complex problem that hasn’t responded as expected to previous treatment
  • you are unsure what is causing your symptoms or which type of treatment you need
  • you have sustained an acute injury or trauma
  • you have a fracture and would like advice about our specialist Acute Fracture Healing service
  • you have tried treatment elsewhere and would like a different approach or another opinion
  • you need advice about whether physiotherapy is appropriate, or whether further investigation or referral may be needed

Simon also treats the full range of more common musculoskeletal problems, including back and neck pain, joint and muscle problems, sports injuries and tendon conditions.

Simon’s approach to treatment

“I am completely committed to helping people out of pain, and my aim is that everyone coming to the clinic leaves in a better place. If physiotherapy isn’t the whole answer, I have a network of contacts in the medical and orthopaedic world, so that I can direct patients and hopefully give them the best possible outcome.”

Simon believes that good treatment starts with understanding both the problem and the person experiencing it. Treatment is therefore tailored to the individual and may draw upon different techniques depending upon the findings of the assessment and what is most appropriate for that patient.

Where necessary, Simon can also advise when further investigation or specialist opinion may be appropriate and help patients find the right next step.

Experience and additional training

In addition to his Physiotherapy degree, Simon has undertaken further training and gained extensive experience in:

  • Medical Acupuncture
  • Medical Electricity and Electrotherapy
  • Osteopathic manipulation
  • HVT manipulation
  • Fitness instruction
  • Personal training

This breadth of experience gives Simon a wide range of treatment options and is particularly useful when dealing with problems where a straightforward approach has not been successful.

Simon previously worked with Bath Rugby assisting with players’ training and injuries, and has worked full-time in private musculoskeletal practice throughout his career.

Specialist interests

Chronic and complex musculoskeletal problems

One of Simon’s particular interests is helping people with persistent or complicated problems, including those who have already tried treatment elsewhere without achieving the result they had hoped for.

His role isn’t necessarily to provide physiotherapy indefinitely. Sometimes the most useful outcome of an assessment is identifying a different course of action or directing a patient to the appropriate medical or orthopaedic specialist.

Acute Fracture Healing

Simon has a longstanding specialist interest in fracture healing and the use of therapeutic technologies to support the body’s natural healing process following a fracture.

Corsham Physiotherapy’s Acute Fracture Healing service is separate from conventional post-fracture rehabilitation and uses specialist treatments including appropriate electrotherapy modalities.
