Exercise and Rehabilitation in Corsham

Exercise and rehabilitation can be an important part of recovering from injury or surgery, managing a recurring problem, improving your strength and fitness, or helping you return to sport.

At Corsham Physiotherapy, our physiotherapists can assess your movement, strength and mobility and develop a rehabilitation programme specifically for you. Rather than simply giving you a list of exercises to complete at home, we can coach you through them, check your technique and gradually progress your programme as you improve.

Your rehabilitation might include exercises to improve strength, mobility, balance, control or endurance, depending on your individual needs and goals.

Rehabilitation Following Surgery

Physiotherapy and exercise can play an important role in recovery following orthopaedic surgery, including hip and knee replacements and shoulder, spinal or other musculoskeletal surgery.

Before surgery, pain or reduced mobility may already have led to a loss of strength and function. Following surgery, rehabilitation can help you gradually restore movement, rebuild strength and regain confidence in using the affected area.

Your physiotherapist can guide you through the different stages of your recovery, progressing your exercises appropriately as you heal and helping you work towards everyday activities, work, hobbies or sport.

Niggling or Recurring Injuries

If the same problem keeps returning, simply settling the symptoms each time may not be enough.

There may be underlying factors such as reduced strength, mobility, balance or control that are contributing to the problem. Your physiotherapist can assess these and develop a targeted exercise programme to address the areas most relevant to you.

The aim is not only to help you recover from the current problem, but to make you stronger and more resilient for the future.

Return to Sport and Sports Performance

Rehabilitation doesn’t have to stop when your pain has gone.

If your goal is to return to running, gym training or sport, we can progress your rehabilitation towards the demands of your particular activity. This may include strength and conditioning, balance and control work, jumping and landing exercises, running drills or other sport-specific exercises.

For those already participating in sport, physiotherapy-led strength and conditioning can also help identify areas that could be improved and develop the physical qualities needed for your particular sport or goals.

Getting Stronger and Fitter

You don’t need to be injured to benefit from physiotherapy-led exercise.

If you haven’t exercised for some time, have lost strength or fitness, or simply aren’t sure where to start, we can help you build up gradually and safely.

We can start by looking at your current strength, mobility, balance and general level of activity, as well as discussing what you would like to achieve. From there, we can help you find an appropriate starting point and gradually increase the challenge as your strength, fitness and confidence improve.

For some people, this might begin with walking and Pilates. As you progress, you may want to add more targeted strength and conditioning work as your fitness improves.

The aim is to make exercise feel achievable and sustainable, helping you become stronger, fitter and more confident in what your body can do.

Pilates and Rehabilitation

Pilates can be incorporated into rehabilitation where appropriate, but it can also provide an excellent form of regular, ongoing exercise.

We offer individual, couples and small-group Pilates, allowing exercises to be adapted to your ability, any injuries or limitations, and your individual goals.

Pilates works the whole body, helping to develop a foundation of strength, mobility, balance and control. With a focus on the quality and variety of movement, it can complement other activities and sports, or provide a well-rounded form of exercise in its own right.

Whether you begin Pilates as part of your recovery from an injury or simply want to move well, feel stronger and stay active, it is something that can continue to develop and challenge you over the long term.
