Pilates should be part of your New Year resolutions!

Every January, many of us start the year with a resolution to be fitter and healthier.

Pilates is the ideal exercise to include – whether on it’s own once or twice a week, or as a complement to other exercise.  Why is it so good?

  • Core Strength and Stability. At the heart of Pilates is an emphasis on core strength and stability.  Unlike many other exercise regimes, Pilates often engages multiple muscle groups at the same time, creating a strong and stable core.  Not only does this help improve your posture, but it also gives a solid base for overall strength development.
  • Mind-Body Connection. Pilates is more than just a physical workout; when performing Pilates exercises you have to really tune in to your body, and focus on breath control and controlled movements.  It makes you aware of your body, how you move and (perhaps) make you aware of any weaknesses.  This focus can be translated to any other activity and everyday life.
  • Adaptable for All Fitness Levels and Ages. A great feature of Pilates is that anyone of any age or ability can join in.  We help with this by holding a range of classes including seated classes, gentle classes and general classes.
  • Improved Flexibility and Joint Mobility. Pilates moves include dynamic movements and stretches that promote flexibility and joint mobility.  This is crucial for healthy muscles and a healthy spine, and to help prevent injuries.  Pilates exercises are designed to lengthen and strengthen muscles, giving you improved flexibility, increased range of motion, and reduced muscle stiffness.
  • Enhanced Posture and Body Awareness. With us all leading more sedentary lifestyles at times, poor posture is becoming more commonplace.   Pilates targets the muscles responsible for maintaining a healthy posture, giving better alignment and spinal health. Through precise movements and body awareness exercises, Pilates helps correct imbalances, reducing the risk of chronic pain and discomfort.
